Why do large poultry farms use drinking water or spray instead of eye drops?
Why do large poultry farms use drinking water or spray instead of eye drops?
1. Large number of chickens
In industrial units, there are usually tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of chickens.
Eye drop vaccination must be given to each chicken → very time-consuming and expensive.
2. High manpower requirement
Eye drops require a large number of skilled workers.
In large farms, it is difficult and expensive to find this amount of specialized manpower.
3. Stress and injury to chickens
Hand-holding chickens for eye drops causes severe stress and even injury (e.g., choking, broken wings or legs).
Stress itself also reduces the safety of the vaccine.
4. Operational management
Spray or drinking water allows all chickens to receive the vaccine at the same time.
Much faster and better coordination.
5. Lower cost
Water-based or spray-based vaccines → Less labor, less time, less cost.
On large farms, this cost difference is very significant.
