Why does Angara mortality stop after about 3 days of stopping feed, but then increase again when feeding is resumed?!

Angara disease, which is caused by adenovirus 4, causes liver, intestinal, immune system and heart failure in poultry.

A period without food allows the digestive system, especially the intestines and liver, to go through their natural process of rest and regeneration. While Angara disease damages the intestinal lining, this short rest period may cause limited recovery or at least stop further damage and lead to a temporary reduction in mortality.

On the other hand, in conditions such as Angara disease, birds may ingest viruses, bacteria or mycotoxins that cause or exacerbate the disease. Stopping feed reduces the amount of contaminated feed consumed, thereby reducing the viral or bacterial load and the amount of toxins consumed.

To summarize, Angara disease causes malabsorption and problems in nutrient utilization. Refeeding provides nutrients or microbial contamination, but the severely damaged gut cannot digest and process them effectively, resulting in further stress and worsening of the effects of the disease.
